What is the difference between PVC and vinyl tablecloths?
The dining table is a piece of furniture in our family. To prevent the dining table from being damaged by bumps and to better protect the dining table from stains, everyone will put a tablecloth on the dining table. There are many materials for the tablecloth. vinyl, polyester, PU, and prepare the materials we use the most, and they are both tablecloths. Do you know what is the difference between PVC and VINYL?
1. The inclusion relationship is different
Vinyl is a kind of PVC, that is, PVC contains Vinyl material. Vinyl refers to vinyl. Compared with PVC, it refers to vinyl polymers, which contain many kinds of plastics and vinyl compounds.
2. Different characteristics
VINYL is one of the compounds containing the vinyl factor, which is typically highly reactive, easily poly structured, usually strong, stretchable, and shiny; PVC is a common thermoplastic resin, a type of polyethylene, It is made of polyethylene and HCL polymerized and is used in a wide range of products including raincoats, rubber hoses for garden watering, phonograph records, and floor tiles.
3. Different toxicity
VINYL is used as the basic material for plastic production, which is non-toxic; while PVC is more resistant to aging than polyethylene, but it is toxic.
Here’s our quick and simple explanation of the difference between oilcloth, polyester, and vinyl tablecloths.
An oilcloth is more durable than a PVC tablecloth it’s made from 100% high-quality cotton with a PVC coating. PVC tablecloth fabric doesn’t fray at the edges so there is no need for it to be hemmed and it can be cut to fit your table. You’ll notice that the material will drape more naturally over the edges of your table. Oilcloth fabric can also be used to make other items that need to be wipeable, such as bags or change mats.
Polyester tablecloth offers great durability and is resistant to stains and wrinkles. It is because of these properties that polyester is considered an excellent choice for table linens.
A type of polyester is designed in such a way that it offers a ‘cotton-feel’. It is as soft and durable as cotton. Just like cotton, the fabric is inexpensive, machine-washable, durable, and available in different colors and patterns.
The fabric is ideal for reuse. It is extremely popular for places with high volumes such as banquets, parties, wedding venues, or corporate events.
A vinyl tablecloth is nearly the same as an oilcloth tablecloth – it’s 100% high-quality cotton and coated with PVC. So we use both names because we have found that most customers use both names to describe the same product.
There are two differences between PU tablecloths and PVC tablecloths: one is heat resistance; PVC tablecloths have poor heat resistance and are generally deformed at more than 70 degrees, So PVC tablecloths are suitable for family use for Western-style cold meals. On the contrary, the high-temperature resistance of the pu tablecloth is very good, and it can reach 90 ℃ without deformation. Another point is texture; PVC tablecloths are softer, while pu tablecloths are relatively hard, mainly because the manufacturing process of PU materials is more complicated than that of PVC materials.
The difference between PU tablecloth and PVC tablecloth is as follows:
1. Heat resistance, the heat resistance of PVC tablecloths is relatively poor, generally at 80-95 degrees, and sometimes it begins to deform at more than 70 degrees, and the temperature of Chinese cooking dishes is generally high, so PVC tablecloths are not very suitable for making The protective table surface of Chinese-style families is recommended for families who are often used for Western-style cold meals.
2. Texture, PU tablecloth will be softer because of its complicated manufacturing process. The PVC tablecloth material is harder. Secondly, the pu tablecloth will also be more wear-resistant than the PVC tablecloth, and the life will be longer.
3. In terms of price, generally speaking, the production of PU tablecloths will be more complicated, so its price will be a little higher, usually 2 to 3 times higher than that of PVC tablecloths.
Whether you choose a PVC, PU, polyester, vinyl, or oilcloth tablecloth you’ll find they’re practical, water-resistant, and easy to keep clean. We offer free samples so you can choose the material and design that best suits your home or workplace.
PVC (polyvinyl chloride) injection molding process conditions, usually do not need drying, the melting temperature is 185~205℃, the mold temperature is 20~50℃, the injection pressure can reach 1500bar, and the holding pressure can reach 1000bar, to avoid material degradation, generally use a considerable injection speed.
PVC material is an amorphous material, and PVC materials are often added with stabilizers, lubricants, auxiliary processing agents, pigments, impact resistance agents, and other additives in practical use. PVC material has non-flammability, high strength, weather resistance, and excellent geometric stability.
PVC is very resistant to oxidizing agents, reducing agents, and strong acids. However, it can be corroded by concentrated oxidizing acids such as concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated nitric acid and is not suitable for contact with aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons. The melting temperature of PVC is a very important process parameter during processing. If this parameter is improper, it will lead to The problem of material decomposition.
The flow characteristics of PVC are quite poor and its process range is very narrow. In particular, high molecular weight PVC materials are more difficult to process (such materials are usually added with lubricants to improve flow characteristics), so small molecular weight PVC materials are usually used. PVC is easy to release toxic gas during the molding process.
